Projects > Needlecraft > James Bond Is a Time Lord.jpg
I am very proud of this project! On more than one occasion, Matt Mira of the Nerdist podcast posited the theory that James Bond is a Time Lord, which explains his shifting appearance throughout the series. The image completely captured my imagination, and after I won the silent auction item to attend a recording of the podcast, i knew I needed to make something out of that image. Proper embroidery seemed like the perfect medium.
There was only one problem: I didn't know embroidery. The only embroidery I'd ever done was on the Green Day shirt, which was free-hand.
Enter the lovely folks at Rittenhouse Needlepoint in Center City Philadephia. I dropped in after work on a Friday and within in an hour they had me up and running with the basketweave stitch.
After that, I spent some time with Photoshop, mashing together the two logos, until I settled on what you see in the picture. Many tedious hours of transferring the photo into Excel and then onto the needlepoint canvas followed.
I would love to give you advice in this arena, but I was doing it by pure trial-and-error. I spent a lot of time counting blocks. There is probably a better way—if you have access to a good needlepointer (pointist?) or shop, you'd do a lot better than following my advice. But always—do not be afraid to try!
Here's an Excel spreadsheet of the pattern I made.
If you make it or something like it, it would warm my heart greatly to see a picture!
